Many have speculated about a great "happening" or even a disaster which could possibly change the life on earth as we know it while others believe it is a time of "evolution" and "adaptation" while others believe that December 21, 2012 holds no real significance at all.
So where do these prophecies and predictions of 2012 come from?
The 2012 phenomenon includes a number of written prophecies, ancient beliefs, astrological anomalies, ancient calendars and text and even the technological predictions of the World Wide Web. Some of those who have contributed to the 2012 phenomenon are the Maya, the Hopi tribe, Nostradamus, ancient Egyptians, the Hindu faith, astrologers, and even Biblical texts.

Now by reading the above list, life on earth may seem hopeless, but many believers of the 2012 phenomenon see this time as a time of positive change or that the prophecies are simply a warning and that it is ultimately up to us human beings to make a great change if we want to survive.
A belief also exists that the great alignment could potentially stimulate and activate our pineal glands which is often referred to as our third eye and that we are to experience a whole new way of existing in which we have never had the ability to do so before, changing our perceptions and our understanding
The Mayan Calendar and 2012
The Maya who were far ahead of their time as astronomers and early number systems have many ancient calendars which count a variety of things. One of the Mayan calendars, by far the longest ranging calendar marks the end of time directly around 2012. Does this mean that in 2012 time itself will end? Today's Mayan culture tends to point out that 2012 is simply the end of an era, not the cosmic end that others may believe.
However information exists that the world has been through numerous destructions and rebirths and the 2012 time period represents another end that possibly awaits us based on historical events of cataclysmic disaster.
Nostradamus Prophecies and 2012
16th century French astrologer, prophet and alchemist, Michel Nostradamus whose many predictions have already believed to come true, predicts a number of great events that are to happen in the year 2012 and the arrival of the 3rd and final antichrist. Among the prophetic writings also known as "quatrains" another prophetic piece has also been attributed to Nostradamus which is known only as the Lost Book of Nostradamus. In the Lost Book of Nostradamus contains a number of graphical depictations that go hand in hand with the prophecies written by Nostradamus and perhaps warnings of the upcoming events in 2012.
The Bible and 2012
Some believe that December 21, 2012 marks the point in which the book of Revelations also known as the Revelations of St. John takes place. In revelations, Christ returns to earth as do the four horsemen of the Apocalypse which represent plague and other devastational atrocities inflicted on the world of man. The appearance of the antichrist and the final religious war known as "Armageddon" in which man takes sides of both good and evil in battle. In addition to the events described in Revelations, many have studied a numerological code within the text of the Bible known has the Bible Code. The Bible Code also contains apocalyptic predictions which are to come in year 2012.
The Hopi Tribe and 2012
The Hopi Tribe, a Native American tribe that still exists today have their own prophecies of 2012 and have a glyph that depicts possible outcomes of man leaving one time period and going in to the next. The Hopi believe that the world has ended numerous times and we are soon approaching the newest "end" and "beginning" which is to come.
The Galactic Alignment in 2012
On December 21st, 2012 we will enter a very spectacular type of eclipse in which the galaxy becomes perfectly inline with the sun and earth so that the Sun appears directly in the center of the Milky way galaxy from earth's perspective. This is known as the Galactic Alignment of 2012. This is one of numerous eclipse or "alignments" which we will encounter surrounding the year 2012.
